Detailed Description of the Data Product

The NIR Geometric Distortions contains the model of NIR optical distortions used as input for the scientific astrometric calibration task.

Processing Element(s) creating/using the data product

The NIR Geometric Distortions is created by the NIR_DistortionModel_Pipeline.

This pipeline requires as input the self-calibration exposures of a single filter, and executes all NIR_ProcessField_Pipeline steps up to the astrometric calibration. This last task, doAstrom of NIR_AstrometricCalibration project, is executed in a specific configuration to produce a model of geometric distortions.

Processing function using the data product

This data product is used as a pre-solution for the Astrometric calibration step in the NIR_ProcessField_Pipeline.

In detail it is an input of doAstrom task, of NIR_AstrometricCalibration project, inside the NIR_ProcessField_Pipeline and in most of the calibration pipelines.

Data Product structure description

The main elements inside the Data section are:

  • Filter: The filter name (e.g. NIR_Y, NIR_J, NIR_H)

  • ValidityRange: Calibration file validity period estimated

  • ObservationIdList: List of Observation IDs used for data product creation

  • DataContainer: Element that links to a .head file containing geometric distortion

  • QualityParams (optional): List of Detector Data Quality Parameters
    • AstIRms1: Astrometric Internal RMS 1 SCAMP Astrometric dispersion (internal, high S/N)

    • AstIRms2: Astrometric Internal RMS 2 SCAMP Astrometric dispersion (internal, high S/N)

    • AstRRms1: Astrometric Internal RMS 1 SCAMP Astrometric dispersion (reference catalog, high S/N)

    • AstRRms2: Astrometric Internal RMS 2 SCAMP Astrometric dispersion (reference catalog, high S/N)

.head file description

The .head file, linked in DataContainer section, guests header keywords needed to set an astrometric solution to single detectors.
